Belgrano de Córdoba defeated River Plate 3-2 in the Torneo Apertura final on Sunday at the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium in Córdoba. The Cordoban side claimed its first top-flight Argentine football title with goals from Leonardo Morales and a brace by Nicolás Fernández.
River took the lead in the 17th minute of the first half through a goal by Facundo Colidio. Belgrano equalized at the 25-minute mark with a header from Leonardo Morales after a corner taken by Lucas Zelarayán.
In the second half River regained the advantage with a strike from Tomás Galván in the 14th minute. Substitute Nicolás Fernández leveled the score from the penalty spot in the 39th minute after a handball reviewed by VAR and sealed the win in the 42nd minute with a volley.
After the final whistle River coach Eduardo Coudet was sent off for protesting to referee Yael Falcón Pérez. Belgrano players celebrated the title on the pitch while thousands of fans rejoiced outside the stadium.
