The University of Calgary Dinos curling program experienced a standout weekend during the U SPORTS championships in Regina and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina D’Ampezzo, Italy. On February 21, the Dinos men's team—consisting of Kenan Wipf, Ky Macaulay, Ethan Drysdale, and Spencer Else—defeated Carleton 7-6 to win the national title.
Simultaneously, Brett Gallant, the program's skill-development coach, played third for skip Brad Jacobs and led Canada to a 9-6 victory over Great Britain in the Olympic final at Cortina Olympic Stadium. “It’s incredible. To stand on top of the podium with this team, it’s amazing,” Gallant told on-site reporters. “I think that was the hardest game I’ve ever curled, (against) one of the hardest opponents — the No. 1 team in the world.”
Earlier in the Games, Gallant teamed up with his wife, Jocelyn Peterman—BKin’16 and director of the Dinos curling program since its 2022 launch—for mixed doubles, where they finished fifth. The women's Dinos team also competed in Regina for the U SPORTS event, though specific results were not detailed in reports.
These achievements underscore the program's growing prominence under Peterman's leadership.
