The season 18 premiere of RuPaul's Drag Race aired on Friday, introducing 14 new contestants to the competition. Cardi B joined the judges' panel, quickly establishing herself as a forthright critic. Unlike some guest judges who offer gentle feedback, Cardi delivered sharp commentary that left at least one queen stunned.
The main challenge tasked the queens with creating runway outfits inspired by past contestants, using unconventional materials. Nini Coco impressed by transforming LaLa Ri's infamous bag dress into a couture paper ensemble, earning praise. However, not all entries succeeded. Kenya Pleaser faced the harshest scrutiny from Cardi, who declared, "The skirt is terrible." Cardi continued, "If you know your outfit is not great, you just gotta go nice up here," pointing to Kenya's makeup, and added, "Glam is very important. ... If the outfit ain't great, the glam gotta give."
Cardi also critiqued Juicy Love Dion's skirt as "ugly," asking, "Girl, what was you thinking with that skirt? I really hate that skirt." For Mandy Mango's floral addition, she said, "Oh my God, I hate it. It's bad, but you're so pretty," joking it looked like time spent at Michael's craft store. In contrast, Cardi praised Jane Don't's hair and effort during the judging.
Before RuPaul's final decisions, Cardi entered the Werk Room to encourage the queens. "I'm not even going to lie to you girls, like, I might be the sweetest girl in the world, but I am a very tough judge," she explained, crediting her transgender makeup artist Erika La' Pearl and wig stylist Tokyo Stylez as influences. She urged, "Don't get discouraged from it. Learn from it."
Nini Coco and Vita VonTesse Starr were selected as the top performers. They lip-synced to Cardi's "Enough (Miami)" for the win, delivering strong attitudes without elaborate tricks. RuPaul declared Nini the victor. Afterward, Cardi enthused to RuPaul, "That was so much fun! Can I be a judge forever, like permanently?" No queen was eliminated, setting up the season ahead.
