Ceci Flores, founder of the Madres Buscadoras de Sonora collective, stated this Saturday that she will not give up searching for her missing son Alejandro Guadalupe Islas Flores, known as Alex, after locating and burying her other son, Marco Antonio.
Ceci Flores shared a video on social media stating: “We start the search again without giving up until we find Alex.” She thanked those who accompanied her from the location of Marco Antonio's remains to his burial, as well as people who sent messages of support.
She acknowledged the authorities' role in the search, investigation, and location efforts, and emphasized the media's importance: “Truly, many thanks to all the media outlets, without which we would not be visible to authorities and society.”
Flores described the last days as “terrible” and “very painful,” involving remains identification, DNA results, and time with the remains before burial. She noted she is in a stage of denial and that “hope is over, the real pain has begun.”
Alejandro Guadalupe Islas Flores went missing on October 30, 2015, in Los Mochis, Sinaloa. Flores plans to travel to that state to continue the search, without abandoning her commitment to the collective or other missing persons cases: “I will not abandon the mothers of Sonora (...) I will not stop this fight, I will move forward.”
