Noel Berry, co-creator of Celeste, has revealed City of None, a pixel art Metroidvania platformer set for release next year. The game, published by Extremely OK Games, features Game Boy-inspired visuals and a soundtrack by Berry's brother Liam. Players will navigate a vast city to reclaim it from hostile forces.
City of None is a platforming adventure where the protagonist travels through an enormous city overtaken by adversaries. Noel Berry, known for his art contributions to Celeste, leads development alongside Liam Berry on sound design. The duo receives publishing support from Extremely OK Games (EXOK), founded by Celeste creator Maddy Thorson after that game's release. EXOK also publishes TowerFall and had been developing Earthblade, which was canceled last year due to team disputes. The game's pixel art evokes Game Boy aesthetics while incorporating modern details for enhanced intricacy. Teaser tracks, including “Among the Heaps” and “City Outskirts,” are available on the official website, praised for their strong Game Boy vibe. City of None is scheduled for Steam sometime next year.
