Cold fronts 14 and 15 arrive in Mexico with temperatures down to -15 degrees

Cold front number 14 will impact the weekend with rain and temperature drops in several states, while front 15 arrives on Monday, November 17. In Mexico City, alerts for extreme cold were activated for Saturday, November 15, with temperatures from 1 to 6 degrees Celsius in various boroughs. The National Water Commission forecasts frosts in northern mountainous areas and possible snow in the northwest.

The National Meteorological Service of the National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that cold front 14 is approaching northwest Mexico this weekend, interacting with a cyclonic circulation on the western coast of the United States. This will cause wind gusts up to 60 kilometers per hour and a drop in temperatures. Strong rains with electrical discharges are expected in Baja California, showers in Sonora, and isolated rains in Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Puebla, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, and Guerrero. Additionally, punctual heavy showers in Chiapas and Quintana Roo, with gusts of 60 to 80 km/h in Oaxaca and Chiapas due to the 'Norte' event.

In mountainous areas, minimum temperatures will reach -15 to -10 degrees Celsius with frosts in Baja California, Chihuahua, and Durango; -10 to -5 degrees in Sonora; and -5 to 0 degrees in Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Mexico State, Tlaxcala, and Puebla. Other mountainous regions like Coahuila, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Michoacán, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Veracruz, and Oaxaca will see 0 to 5 degrees.

On Monday, November 17, a holiday for the anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, cold front 15 will arrive in the northwest and north of the country. Strong rains and possible snow or sleet are forecast in Baja California and Sonora, with cold conditions in the morning and night, and clear to partly cloudy skies in the Northern Plateau and Central Plateau.

In Mexico City, the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection activated an Orange Alert for temperatures of 1 to 3 degrees Celsius and frosts in Álvaro Obregón, Cuajimalpa, Magdalena Contreras, Milpa Alta, and Tlalpan. A Yellow Alert applies for 4 to 6 degrees in Gustavo A. Madero, Tláhuac, Venustiano Carranza, and Xochimilco during the early hours of Saturday, November 15. This coincides with the Corona Capital weekend, where warm clothing is recommended.
