Comedian Tutty Tran reports racist attack

Stand-up comedian Tutty Tran has become the victim of a racist attack, according to his own account. On Instagram, he shared a photo showing a bloodshot eye and a plaster on his temple. The incident occurred over the weekend on the open street.

Tutty Tran, 37, a stand-up comedian, actor, and content creator with Vietnamese roots who grew up in Berlin, reported the attack on Instagram. He was insulted and physically assaulted simply 'because I look the way I look,' he wrote. 'That was pure racism.'

Tran tried to remain calm and de-escalate with words: 'I tried to achieve something with words – as I always do: through exchange and respect. It didn't work this time. Some people don't want to talk at all. They want to hurt.' He shared the incident to raise awareness about racism: 'I shared the incident because I'm convinced that looking away changes nothing – and because I believe that art, humor, and openness are stronger than hate.' Racism is not an opinion, and violence is not a vent.

The artist is currently on tour with his program 'Wok-Life-Balance.' According to his own statement, the incident will have no impact on his upcoming performances. The attack highlights ongoing issues with racism in Germany, as Tran describes it.
