Santiago's Third Guarantee Court rejected extending the investigation into former Recoleta mayor Daniel Jadue over the Farmacias Populares case this Friday. This allows the Central North Regional Prosecutor's Office to file the formal accusation. Jadue faces charges of tax fraud, fraud, bribery, and bankruptcy offense, and remains under total house arrest.
After 1:00 p.m. this Friday, Santiago's Third Guarantee Court decided not to extend the investigation against Daniel Jadue, former mayor of Recoleta. This ruling closes the investigation period and enables the Central North Regional Prosecutor's Office to submit the accusation promptly.
Chief prosecutor Marcelo Cabrera detailed the decision: “The court considered that the proceedings were exhausted, closed the investigation period as of today, and we will proceed to present the accusation shortly.” He added: “Nothing changes regarding the penalty requests; the offenses with which Mr. Jadue and others were charged remain in the same terms as previously presented before the reopening of the investigation.”
Jadue, under total house arrest, is charged with tax fraud, fraud, bribery, and bankruptcy offense in the Farmacias Populares case. The prosecution has requested 18 years in prison for him and a 15-year ban from holding public office.
Recently, the former mayor, disaffiliated from the Communist Party after his formalization, has stirred public debate with YouTube criticisms of the government's stance on the U.S. incursion in Venezuela. Regarding Minister Vallejo, he questioned: “Is it such the disconnection of this minister (Vallejo) from the reality generated by her government that they still believe themselves revolutionaries?” On President Gabriel Boric, he stated: “It seems he wants us to forget all the times he subordinated himself (to the U.S.).”
