Davido plans to join Accord Party after uncle's defection

Grammy-nominated singer Davido has announced his intention to join the Accord Party by picking up his membership card in Osun State. This follows his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke's recent defection from the PDP to the Accord Party. The move highlights growing political involvement in the Adeleke family ahead of the 2026 elections.

Grammy-nominated singer David Adeleke, known as Davido, announced on Tuesday via social media that he will visit Osun State to collect his Accord Party membership card at Imole House in Osogbo. "I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ Imole House, Osogbo tomorrow… see you soon accordingly," he wrote, tagging Governor Ademola Adeleke.

This comes days after the governor's defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party. Adeleke submitted his resignation from the PDP on November 4, 2025, in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area, and formally announced it on December 1. He joined the Accord Party on November 6 following consultations with stakeholders, aiming to seek re-election in 2026.

On December 9, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Osun State Government House, Adeleke officially declared his intention to run for a second term on the Accord platform. "I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026," he said. He emphasized the party's welfarist philosophy aligning with his administration's focus on citizens' welfare and good governance.

"Stakeholders and residents of Osun State are aware of why we are taking this important decision. We intend to pursue a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party to complete the ongoing delivery of good governance," Adeleke added. He cited PDP's national leadership crisis as the reason for leaving.

The Accord Party's National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, praised the defection for boosting membership nationwide. "Since His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, joined Accord along with his political associates and supporters, our party has witnessed tremendous national acceptance," Mgbudem said in Abuja. He dismissed claims of internal factions, attributing them to expelled former presidential candidate Christopher Imumolen, and affirmed the party's unity ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.

Davido had earlier reposted his uncle's resignation announcement with the caption "Jeje…" on Instagram.
