On Sunday, July 5, heavy rain with lightning fell around Estadio Ciudad de México in Coyoacán. Authorities asked fans to take their seats inside the venue.
The forecast showed temperatures between 21 and 24 degrees before the match, with showers, wind gusts up to 45 km/h, electrical activity and possible hail. During the game, scheduled between 18:00 and 20:00, similar conditions were expected with winds of 45 to 50 km/h.
Authorities issued safety recommendations that included identifying evacuation routes, carrying identification and using raincoats. Light to moderate rains were reported in the morning across several Mexico City boroughs, including Coyoacán, Gustavo A. Madero and Iztapalapa.
