Fide explains how to buy energy-saving appliances during Buen Fin

The Trust for Electricity Savings (Fide) recommends consumers buy high energy-efficient appliances during Buen Fin to reduce electricity use and help the environment. There are currently 3,577 certified models with the Fide Seal from 47 companies on the market. This choice not only lowers electricity bills but also provides greater durability and performance.

The Trust for Electricity Savings (Fide) suggested consumers acquire energy-efficient household appliances, construction materials, and lighting during Buen Fin. One way to identify these products is through the Fide Seal, which offers the opportunity to contribute to reducing global warming and achieve electricity savings.

Appliances with this seal have a longer lifespan, ensure quality, safety, and good performance, and require less maintenance or replacement compared to conventional equivalents, benefiting family finances and environmental care. Currently, there are 3,577 models from 47 companies bearing this seal on the market.

According to the United Nations Environment Programme's Emissions Gap Report 2025, efforts aim to halt global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius. The appliances that consume the most electricity in homes are the refrigerator, washer, clothes dryer, and electric oven. The refrigerator accounts for 22 to 30 percent of household electricity costs, operating 365 days a year. The washer consumes a similar annual amount of energy, mainly due to its power requirements. Together, these appliances may represent about 11 percent of total consumption. The electric oven is responsible for up to 3 percent, but improper use can cause up to 20 percent energy loss.

Other minor consumers include television, computer, hair dryer, and in warm regions, air conditioning. Choosing certified appliances significantly reduces consumption, lowers electricity bills, and minimizes environmental impact.

The Fide Seal is classified into two types: Fide Seal A, for equipment that uses energy efficiently directly, such as refrigerators and energy-saving lamps; and Fide Seal B, for indirect products like thermal insulators and domes that create conditions for savings.

According to BBVA bank, advantages include long-term money savings, environmental care by preserving resources, longer lifespan due to less wear, and good performance results, countering myths about lower efficiency.
