The series stars Holly Hunter as the Chancellor, with cadets portrayed by Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, and Bella Shepard. Additional cast includes Zoë Steiner, Tig Notaro, Robert Picardo, and guests Oded Fehr and Mary Wiseman, alongside recurring roles by Gina Yashere and Paul Giamatti.

Rebecca Quin, known professionally as Becky Lynch, appears as a guest star playing an unnamed Starfleet officer assigned to the Operations Gold bridge crew. The reveal comes courtesy of Collider, showcasing Lynch in a transformed look distinct from her wrestling persona. She has prior acting credits in Vikings and Billions, and rumors once linked her to a cut role in Marvel's Eternals.

Lynch shared her excitement about the production: "I’m on the bridge crew, and filming on the bridge, it was one of the most amazing sets I’ve ever been on." Reflecting on her Irish upbringing, she added, "I grew up when Star Trek was one of the two shows that was on TV in Ireland... I did love the movies. And Colm Meaney. We all love Colm Meaney."
