Five dead in crash on Eastern Cape's N10 highway

A multi-vehicle collision on the N10 road between Cookhouse and Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape has resulted in five fatalities. Two men and three women lost their lives, with two others injured and hospitalized. Authorities are investigating the incident as culpable homicide.

The accident occurred on November 30, 2025, involving two trucks and a bakkie, leading to the deaths of five people. Provincial transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose confirmed that two males and three females were killed in the crash. Two additional individuals sustained injuries and were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Initially, the N10 was closed to all traffic due to the remote location of the incident, complicating response efforts. Emergency personnel remained on the scene as details emerged slowly. Binqose noted, “Information is not flowing freely as it should be, but we will give you an update as a clearer picture emerges.” By later reports, the road had been partially reopened to allow limited passage.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) shared an update via social media, stating: “Five people have died in a crash between two trucks and a bakkie on N10 in the Eastern Cape.” Police have opened a case of culpable homicide to probe the circumstances surrounding the collision.

This incident highlights ongoing road safety challenges in rural areas of the Eastern Cape, where remote locations can delay emergency responses. No further details on the cause or identities of the victims were immediately available.
