A former Emfuleni Local Municipality fleet manager appeared in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on Monday for a bail application. The 42-year-old faces charges of fraud, corruption and theft over an alleged R16 million ghost fleet tender.
The accused is alleged to have overseen the irregular procurement of 18 municipal vehicles, including trucks and bakkies. Investigators claim the municipality paid the full amount but received only seven vehicles.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Amanda van Wyk said the arrest relates to the irregular awarding of a municipal vehicle fleet tender. Approximately R16 million was paid to a service provider, with only seven of the 18 vehicles delivered despite full payment.
The matter was postponed to Wednesday for a formal bail judgment. The accused remains in custody.
