Former Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Doug Whaley has suggested a rotation plan to help edge rusher T.J. Watt reach double-digit sacks in the upcoming season.
Whaley spoke Wednesday on 93.7 The Fan about the outside linebacker group that includes Watt, Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig and Jack Sawyer. He recommended increasing Herbig's early-season snaps to keep Watt fresher for a late-year peak.
Watt recorded seven sacks in 2025 after signing a contract extension and enters his age-32 season. Whaley said limiting Watt's workload initially could lead to stronger production later.
"If he could get in between eight to 10 sacks, I think that’s gonna be a good stat line," Whaley said. "I definitely think he can get to 10."
New defensive coordinator Patrick Graham has discussed moving Watt around the line of scrimmage, similar to his work with Maxx Crosby in Las Vegas. Watt has expressed openness to the adjustment.
