Fortaleza defeats Atlético-MG 1-0 in Brazilian league

In a delayed 35th-round match of the Brazilian Championship, Fortaleza beat Atlético-MG 1-0 at Arena Castelão on November 30. Pochettino's first-half goal secured the win for the Leão do Pici, who remain in the relegation battle. Atlético-MG, despite late pressure, failed to equalize.

The match, played at Arena Castelão in Fortaleza, Ceará's capital, was a delayed 35th-round fixture in the Brazilian Serie A Championship. Fortaleza, at home, saw a tepid start with few dangerous chances for either side. In the first half, the Leão claimed a penalty after a foul on Dudu in the box, but it was disallowed for offside.

At the 40th minute of the first half, Fortaleza took the lead. After a play down the left flank, Adam Bareiro received in the area and set up Tomás Pochettino, who scored past goalkeeper Everson with no chance of a save. The 1-0 scoreline held as the only goal of the game.

In the second half, Fortaleza remained on top, creating chances from the first minute. At the 11th minute, Bareiro missed a clear opportunity by mishitting inside the six-yard box. Atlético-MG only grew into the game late, pushing for an equalizer, but goalkeeper Brenno preserved the win. The Leão is unbeaten in eight games.

The victory gives Fortaleza 40 points in 18th place, still in the relegation zone, one point behind Santos, the first team outside it. Atlético-MG stays 13th with 45 points.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday, December 3, for the 37th round. Fortaleza hosts Corinthians at 7 p.m. at Arena Castelão, while Atlético-MG faces Palmeiras at 9:30 p.m. at Arena MRV.
