Four crew members were rescued after their private yacht caught fire in the Sibuyan Strait off San Fernando, Romblon, on July 19. Local fishermen responded first and brought the crew to safety before official teams arrived.
The approximately 20-meter yacht MY JAYSON was traveling from Subic, Zambales, to Cebu for repairs when the fire broke out around 11 a.m. The crew abandoned the vessel as flames spread.
Personnel from the San Fernando Municipal Police Station coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and Bantay Dagat volunteers after receiving reports of the burning vessel off Barangay Mabini.
The four crew members were turned over to the San Fernando municipal government for assistance. Authorities are securing the area while waiting for the fire to be fully extinguished and for investigators to determine the cause.
“The safe rescue of all four crew members reflects the value of preparedness, rapid coordination, and strong partnerships during emergencies,” said Police Brig. Gen. Christopher R. Dela Cruz, MIMAROPA police regional director.
