Fox renews 'Best Medicine' for season 2

Fox has renewed the dramedy 'Best Medicine' for a second season, consisting of 12 episodes set to air during the 2026-2027 season. The series, an American adaptation of the British show 'Doc Martin,' stars Josh Charles as Dr. Martin Best, a surgeon who relocates to a small Maine town after a professional setback. The renewal follows a strong debut that drew 12.6 million multiplatform viewers for its premiere.

The renewal of 'Best Medicine' was confirmed by Fox on March 2, 2026. The show, which premiered in January 2026 following Fox's Sunday NFL coverage before shifting to its regular Tuesday 8/7c slot on January 13, has been a success with audiences. Its season one finale is scheduled for March 10 on Fox, with episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.

"'Best Medicine' quickly became a breakout for us this season, blending sharp humor with real heart," said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network, in a statement. "Liz Tuccillo brings a distinctive creative voice to the series, and Josh Charles leads an exceptional cast that audiences have embraced. We, along with Propagate, are excited to build on that momentum in Season Two."

Created by showrunner Liz Tuccillo, the series is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios and executive produced by Ben Silverman, Rodney Ferrell, Howard T. Owens, Mark Crowdy, and Philippa Braithwaite. It adapts the All3Media International format 'Doc Martin,' originally produced in the U.K. by Buffalo Pictures in association with Homerun Film Productions, and brought to the U.S. by Propagate Content.

The plot centers on Dr. Martin Best (Josh Charles), who leaves his career in Boston to serve as a general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent childhood summers with his Aunt Sarah (Annie Potts). He interacts with locals including schoolteacher Louisa Gavin (Abigail Spencer), Sheriff Mark Mylow (Josh Segarra), and assistant Elaine Denton (Cree).

This week's episode features guest star Martin Clunes, who plays the original Doc Martin, as Best's father, Robert.
