Developers at The Coalition confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day was never planned for PlayStation 5 during a Summer Game Fest presentation. The game will release exclusively on Xbox Series X/S and PC on October 6.
The Coalition creative director Matt Searcy and brand director Nicole Fawcette addressed questions about exclusivity after the Xbox Games Showcase. They stated that the game was never discussed for other platforms. "Well, we never talked about it," Searcy said. "It was never changed," Fawcette added.
Xbox announced early in the showcase that E-Day is an Xbox console exclusive. A PEGI rating for PS5 had appeared earlier, and a video showing the PS5 logo was removed. Series co-creator Cliff Bleszinski supported the decision, saying Xbox is steering back toward its core audience.
The game features cross-play between Xbox and PC. Developers said more details on multiplayer modes, including Versus and Horde Siege, will be shared later. They expressed no concern over audience size for matchmaking.
