Harlequin is discontinuing its Historicals line of romance novels. The publisher provided no indication of plans to publish historical stories in other categories.
Harlequin began as a packaging company in 1949 and entered romance publishing by acquiring rights to Mills & Boon in the late 1950s. By 1980 romance accounted for most of the company's revenue. The publisher now releases around 50 books a month across its category lines.
