Hugo Bolin leaves Malmö FF for Borussia Mönchengladbach

Goalkeeper Hugo Bolin, 22, is leaving Malmö FF after being loaned to German club Borussia Mönchengladbach with an obligatory purchase option. The transfer is valued at 21 million kronor. Bolin thanks the club in a press statement.

Hugo Bolin, a 22-year-old goalkeeper developed at Malmö FF, has left the club for a move to Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach. MFF confirmed on Monday evening that Bolin is loaned to the German club with an obligatory purchase option in the summer. According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, the transfer fee is 2 million euros, equivalent to about 21 million kronor.

Bolin underwent the mandatory medical examination at Borussia Park on Monday, where a photo was published by the German newspaper Rheinische Post. The German transfer window closed later that day. Bolin's contract with MFF was set to expire after this season, and during his time at the club, he scored 21 goals in 122 matches.

In a press release from MFF, Bolin expresses his gratitude: “Dear Malmö fans. This marks the end of my journey with MFF for now. I have had unforgettable years in Malmö, both on and off the pitch. Teammates have become friends, and Malmö FF has become my family. I want to extend a big thank you to all supporters, leaders, and everyone around. See you again.”

Borussia Mönchengladbach currently sits in twelfth place in the Bundesliga. The transfer follows closely after MFF sold another homegrown talent, Melker Ellborg, to Sunderland in a deal worth 42 million kronor.
