INEC starts distributing materials for Anambra governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has begun distributing sensitive election materials in Anambra State ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship poll. Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu oversaw the process, while police increased security personnel to 55,000. Officials urged voters to participate confidently in the election.

On November 6, 2025, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the distribution of sensitive materials for the Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025. Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu monitored the handover at the Central Bank of Nigeria in Awka, where materials were sent to Registration Area Centres starting at 9 a.m.

The distributed items included the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), Forms EC8A, and Forms EC8B. The process occurred under the supervision of party agents and security operatives to promote transparency. Agwu emphasized INEC's preparations in collaboration with political parties, security agencies, and civil society organizations to ensure a free, fair, and credible vote.

"People should come out and vote; participate in this election process. Do not stay at home thinking that your vote will not count, and do not assume that your candidate has already won. INEC is fully prepared for this election, and we are assuring the people of Anambra State of a credible and peaceful exercise," Agwu stated.

She reported a smooth distribution without challenges, highlighting the commission's readiness. Meanwhile, Anambra's election security coordinator, Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle, confirmed satisfaction with the logistics. He announced an increase in deployed personnel from 45,000 to 55,000 officers, including members of the Nigeria Police Force, Immigration Service, NDLEA, and DSS, with three officers assigned per polling unit.

"The increase in security personnel is not to intimidate eligible voters but to ensure effective operations and safety at every polling unit. We want to guarantee voters’ confidence in coming out to cast their ballots without fear," Shogunle said. He added assurances of a transparent process free from intimidation, prioritizing the safety of voters, INEC officials, and stakeholders.
