Jackie Chan and director Leo Zhang are collaborating on Pawfect Agents, a live-action and CG hybrid action comedy. Production is set to begin in September, with Cappu Films handling international sales at Hong Kong FilMart. The film targets a worldwide theatrical release in summer 2027.
Jackie Chan stars in Pawfect Agents, directed and produced by Leo Zhang, whose prior films include Fox Hunt and Bleeding Steel. LinKEY Sanxing Film and Zhang’s Shangjia Film are key partners in development and production. The story centers on a veteran agent nearing retirement who returns to action when the Sanxingdui Golden Mask, a prized Chinese national treasure, faces an international theft plot. He teams with a technologically advanced spy dog for a pursuit spanning Europe and China. The project draws from action films mixing live-action with animated elements. The CG animal designs come from artist Li Erpeng, featured at Art Basel and in Sydney’s White Rabbit Gallery collection. Production will film at France’s Palace of Versailles, including a first-time scene scan of the Hall of Mirrors for a Chinese film, and Qatar’s National Museum. Zhang highlighted the novelty: “What makes the film unique is that Jackie Chan steps into an entirely new kind of partnership. Unlike many of his classic films, where he teams up with human partners, this time his allies are a group of animal agents brought to life through a blend of live-action and CG.” Janice Woo of Cappu Films noted, “At Cappu Films, we are always looking for stories that combine high entertainment value with global appeal. The project represents a rare cultural and technological exchange between some of Europe’s most admired heritage sites and a Chinese film production.” Plans extend the property into a franchise with exhibitions, artworks, collectibles, and cross-media ventures.
