Jay-Z headlined the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia on May 30 with a surprise freestyle that included apparent shots at Drake, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj. The performance marked his first solo headlining show in more than five years.
Jay-Z opened the 90-minute set with “Hovi Baby” before launching into a four-minute a cappella freestyle. He rapped lines aimed at Drake, including “The jig is up/We got up 10/wrong chart champ,” and referenced publishing disputes. Additional bars addressed Kanye West over comments about his children and appeared to target Nicki Minaj with references to personal matters.
