Jenna Bush Hager to produce NBC drama Protection

Jenna Bush Hager, co-host of NBC's Today show, has been tapped as an executive producer for an upcoming NBC drama series. The project, titled Protection, comes from Quantico creator Josh Safran and explores layers of law enforcement inspired by the Secret Service. Bush Hager shared details about the series during a recent episode of her show.

Jenna Bush Hager, the 44-year-old daughter of former President George W. Bush and a longtime fixture on NBC's Today franchise since 2009, is expanding her role in television production. On the January 14 episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, which she co-hosts, Bush Hager announced her involvement in Protection, a new drama series greenlit by NBC for a pilot.

The series is created by Josh Safran, known for Quantico, with Bush Hager and producer Ben Spector serving as executive producers. According to the network's description, Protection follows a U.S. marshal killed in the line of duty, triggering what seems like a simple investigation but uncovers a deadly conspiracy. The story targets a family of law enforcement agents with a mysterious assassin at large.

Bush Hager highlighted the show's ties to real-world protection services, drawing from her own experiences. "It’s about different levels of law enforcement. Some based on Secret Service," she explained on air. "So, y’all know I know about that." Having grown up under Secret Service protection in the White House from 2001 to 2009, her background adds authenticity to the narrative.

She expressed excitement over the plot's surprises, calling it "a mystery" and noting how the twists captivated even seasoned executives. "Who knew I would ever do something like this, ladies and gentlemen?" Bush Hager remarked. "We have been working on this for a while, but we are working on a show called ‘Protection’ along with Josh Safran and my colleague Ben Spector."

NBC has not yet revealed casting details or a premiere date for the series.
