Senior Liam Lyons set a new Holy Cross program record in the 1,000 meters, leading the men's track and field team to strong performances at the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational in Boston. His time of 2:19.31 secured victory by nearly eight seconds. Several teammates also achieved personal bests across various events.
The Holy Cross men's track and field team competed at the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational on Sunday in Boston, Massachusetts, where senior Liam Lyons highlighted the day by breaking his own program record in the 1,000 meters. Lyons clocked 2:19.31, surpassing his previous mark of 2:21.16 from February 14, 2025, and finishing well ahead of the field.
In distance events, sophomore Jack Larkin earned second place in the 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 15:08.35. Junior Joseph Mahon took second in the mile, recording 4:12.37. The 3,000 meters saw solid results from three Crusaders: sophomore Lewis O'Connor placed third in 8:39.37, junior Thomas Speltz sixth in 8:40.70, and junior Quinn Salmon seventh in 8:40.97—all personal bests.
Sprints provided further highlights, with sophomore Josh Gentchos finishing third in the 200-meter dash at 22.02 and fourth in the 60-meter dash at 7.03. Fellow sophomore Iain DeBoth came fifth in the 200 meters with a personal best of 22.14, improving on his prior indoor mark of 22.31 from February 14, 2025. In the 400 meters, senior Tristan Miller placed fourth in 49.48, while junior Logan Mott was eighth in 51.03. The 4x400 relay team of Mott, junior Luke Boothroyd, freshman Willem Martino, and Miller secured third place in 3:22.52.
Field events rounded out the successes. Freshman Jake Baker won the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 17.37 meters, his second consecutive day taking the top spot. Junior Michel Mondesir cleared 1.95 meters to claim first in the high jump.
The team looks ahead to the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University, on January 31.
