Liam Nilsson commits to Mount Royal University

Swedish defenseman Liam Nilsson has signed to play college hockey in the U Sports league with Mount Royal University. The 20-year-old moves from the BCHL after a successful season with the West Kelowna Warriors.

Nilsson left Luleå Hockey last year to join the West Kelowna Warriors in Canada's BCHL. He served as team captain and recorded 36 points, including 17 goals, in 45 games. Those totals ranked him among the top scoring defensemen in the league. He reunited with former Luleå teammate Ruslan Jamaldinov, who led the Warriors in scoring with 63 points. Nilsson's mother club is Sunderby SK, and he previously played in Luleå's junior system with limited SHL experience. Mount Royal finished first in the CW East division last season and advanced to the University Cup quarterfinals. Nilsson becomes the only confirmed Swedish player in U Sports for the upcoming season.
