Low pressure area may develop into cyclone by Wednesday, PAGASA says

A low pressure area being monitored inside the Philippine area of responsibility may develop into a tropical cyclone on Wednesday, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said the low pressure area, last located 495 kilometers east of Surigao City, has a medium chance of developing into a tropical cyclone. It is expected to pass through the Southern Luzon-Visayas area on Tuesday and reach the West Philippine Sea by Wednesday.

“When the low-pressure area is in the West Philippine Sea or on Wednesday, there is a high chance that it will become a tropical cyclone,” PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said. If it intensifies, the system will be named Henry and become the eighth cyclone in the country for 2026.

The low pressure area is forecast to bring 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall on Monday to Sorsogon, Masbate, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte. The southwest monsoon is gradually weakening and is currently affecting only the western section of Southern Luzon.
