Five fires occurred on Stora Essingen in western Stockholm over five days, raising fears of a pyromaniac. A villa was completely destroyed in a fire in the early hours of Monday, April 27, but no one was injured. Earlier fires affected rubbish, a recycling container, a grill, and a car, according to police.
A man was detained suspected of arson following the villa fire, the Prosecutor's Authority press service told Aftonbladet. Earlier on Saturday, police confirmed a person had been apprehended. “It is a person who is of interest in the investigation of the recent fires on Stora Essingen,” says police spokesperson Robert Sannerdahl (or Sennerdal) to DN and TT.
Police conducted a major investigation and increased their presence on the Essinge islands after the fires. “During the investigation work that police have conducted, information has emerged pointing towards a specific person, who has appeared particularly interesting for the investigation,” says Robert Sennerdal to TT.
The investigation continues.
