Michal Krasenkow wins Chola Chess Grandmaster Tournament

Polish grandmaster Michal Krasenkow claimed victory in the second Chola Chess Grandmaster Round Robin in Chennai. He finished with a strong score after four rounds. The event marked his return to competitive play in the city.

Michal Krasenkow secured the title with 3½ points from four games. He described his final-round performance as difficult after feeling unwell and falling into a lost position before his opponent faltered.

Krasenkow reflected on earlier rounds, including a rook ending against Bala Chandra Prasad where precise play proved decisive. He also noted accurate rook manoeuvres in his win over Anuj Shrivatri.

The former world number 10, who represented Poland in five Olympiads between 1996 and 2004, stressed that players seeking grandmaster norms must first defeat titled opponents. He praised the growth of Indian chess and the value of round-robin events like Chola Chess.

After the tournament Krasenkow mentioned possible involvement in the upcoming Olympiad in Samarkand as a member of the Rules Commission while noting travel challenges due to age.
