Netflix ends Lena Dunham's 'Too Much' after one season

Lena Dunham's Netflix series 'Too Much' will not return for a second season, wrapping up as a limited series after its July debut. Dunham explained that the story felt complete, despite the show's positive reviews and international reach. The decision aligns with the creators' original vision for a self-contained narrative.

Series Overview

'Too Much' follows Jessica, a mid-thirties New York workaholic played by Megan Stalter, who relocates to London after a breakup and encounters Felix, portrayed by Will Sharpe. The series explores their complicated connection amid her attempts at solitude. Supporting cast includes Richard E. Grant, Stephen Fry, Janicza Bravo, Andrew Rannells, Michael Zegen, Rhea Perlman, Rita Wilson, Leo Reich, Adele Exarchopoulos, Adwoa Aboah, Daisy Bevan, Dean-Charles Chapman, Kaori Momoi, Prasanna Puwanarajah, and Emily Ratajkowski.

Cancellation Details

The show premiered on Netflix in July 2025 and received solid critical acclaim but struggled with viewership, appearing on the Global Top 10 English TV chart for only one week and reaching the Top 10 in 27 countries. Co-creator Lena Dunham, who also wrote, directed, and executive produced alongside her husband Luis Felber, described it as intentionally limited. In a FYC panel statement, Dunham said: “Our intention was always to make ‘Too Much’ as a limited series. It was meant to feel like a classic transatlantic love story, but with time to really dig into the complexities that a film doesn’t have the space for... We had done what we needed to do, and part of the job is knowing when to park it. Who knows — maybe there will be a time down the line when it feels right to check in on them again.”

Production Background

Inspired by Dunham and Felber's relationship, the series was produced by Universal International Studios’ Working Title Television and Dunham’s Good Thing Going banner. Executive producers include Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Michael P. Cohen, Surian Fletcher-Jones, and Bruce Eric Kaplan, with Camilla Bray as producer. Felber's band Attawalpa contributed original music. Dunham maintains an ongoing deal with Netflix through Good Thing Going.
