Nigeria wins 11 athletics medals at African Youth Games

In sprint events, Rosemary Chigozie Nwankwo claimed gold in the girls' 100 metres, finishing in 11.77 seconds ahead of South Africa's Oluchi Ndubueze (12.12 seconds) and Morocco's Maria Saadi (12.27 seconds). Emmanuel Akolo took silver in the boys' 100 metres with 10.76 seconds, trailing South Africa's Micah Africa (10.67 seconds).

The 400 metres races also yielded success. Hafsoh Bisola Majekodunmi won gold in the girls' event in 55.16 seconds, outpacing Ethiopia's Desta Kurni and Congo's Maguerita Athouaby. David Udoh secured silver in the boys' 400 metres at 47.77 seconds, behind South Africa's Fairlie Jaydon.

Field events contributed further. Timothy earned gold in the boys' triple jump, while Godswill Anelechi Nkemakolam gained silver in the long jump with a 7.18-metre leap, second to South Africa's Jayden Fourie. Gift Gowon added silver in the boys' 400 metres hurdles.

Sprints continued with Tejiri Ugoh's gold in the girls' 200 metres (23.95 seconds), ahead of South Africa's Isabella Gunter and Gambia's Njie Adama. Perfect Faye claimed silver in the boys' 200 metres with a season-best 21.47 seconds.

Relays provided a fitting close. The girls' medley team—Miriam Jegede, Miracle Oluebube, Faith Ezechukwu, and Jacinter Lawrence—won gold. The boys' team, featuring Gift Gowon, Emmanuel Akolo, David Udoh, and Tosin Solomon Essan, also took gold.
