Penguins shut out Predators 4-0 in Global Series finale

The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Nashville Predators 4-0 in the second game of the 2025 NHL Global Series at Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, on November 16, 2025. Rookie goalie Sergei Murashov earned his first NHL win and shutout with 21 saves, while Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin each scored in a dominant first period. The victory gave Pittsburgh three of four points from the two-game set after a 2-1 overtime loss on Friday.

Pittsburgh Penguins jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first period against the Nashville Predators, outshooting them 11-2. Parker Wotherspoon opened the scoring at 2:19 with a snap shot from the point, assisted by Erik Karlsson. Evgeni Malkin made it 2-0 at 8:08 when his centering pass deflected off Nashville defenseman Nicolas Hague's skate. Sidney Crosby extended the advantage to 3-0 at 10:13 with a wrist shot on a rebound from Kris Letang's shot, marking his 12th goal of the season.

In the second period, Nashville had multiple power-play opportunities, including a 5-on-3 for 34 seconds, but Pittsburgh's penalty kill held firm. A potential Predators goal at 7:46 was disallowed due to goalie interference on Murashov. Juuse Saros made 18 saves for Nashville, who went 0-for-4 on the power play.

The Penguins sealed the 4-0 win with Blake Lizotte's empty-net goal at 17:12 in the third period. Murashov, a 21-year-old rookie, stopped all 21 shots faced, becoming the third goalie in NHL history to earn a shutout in a regular-season game outside North America.

"I feel great, actually," Murashov said. "It’s an amazing performance for the guys. An unbelievable start."

Pittsburgh improved to 10-5-4, while Nashville fell to 6-10-4. Penguins coach Dan Muse praised the first-period effort: "That’s the way we needed to come out."

Filip Forsberg played his 800th NHL game for Nashville, recording one shot and six hits in 20:42 of ice time. Despite the loss, Forsberg called the week "unbelievable," highlighting family attendance and community visits. Nashville coach Andrew Brunette noted a slow start: "We knew they’d have a bigger sense of urgency."

The Penguins are 116-10-6 when Crosby and Malkin score in the same game. Pittsburgh forward Ville Koivunen sat out with a lower-body injury.
