The PGA Tour has ratified a new two-track system for its schedule that will take effect in 2028. The changes create a Championship Series for roughly 130 players and a Challenger Series for others with different purse sizes.
Under the plan, Track 1 events will offer $20 million purses while Track 2 events will feature purses around $4 million. Players on the Championship Series will not be permitted to compete in Challenger Series events.
Lucas Glover highlighted one major concern during the John Deere Classic. "That was a very, very, very hot topic on the PAC and amongst the [policy board] from what I understand," Glover said. He noted that many players want the option to compete in events near their homes such as the Cognizant Classic or WM Phoenix Open.
The structure will provide players with fixed numbers of starts each season, either 21 on the Championship Series or 20 on the Challenger Series. Brian Rolapp presented the ratified changes last week at the Travelers Championship. The system aims to deliver greater predictability for players, sponsors and fans.
