Resident Evil Requiem skips public demo to prioritize quality

Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem will not receive a public demo ahead of its February 27, 2026 release. The decision allows the development team to focus on delivering a high-quality product. The game, the ninth mainline entry, returns to a post-destruction Raccoon City with protagonist Grace Ashcroft.

Announcement Details

Resident Evil Requiem was revealed at Summer Game Fest in June 2025 as an original entry in the long-running survival horror series. Unlike previous titles such as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village, which offered public demos, Requiem will not have one available to the general public. Producer Masato Kumazawa explained in an interview with Stevivor, "So, in terms of a demo play, we actually have no plan for one [for the general public] at this stage. None at all. We just want to focus on finishing off the game."

Kumazawa emphasized the team's commitment to quality: "Our development team is just doing its best to make sure that it's creating the best quality game; to make sure that it's a fine product." While no public demo is planned, a playable version will appear at Gamescom 2025.

Story and Accessibility

The game features FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, daughter of journalist Alyssa Ashcroft, who appeared in the 2002 spin-off Resident Evil Outbreak. Set in the ruins of Raccoon City after its destruction in Resident Evil 3, the story involves Grace investigating a mysterious outbreak linked to her mother's murder at the Wrenwood Hotel.

Kumazawa assured fans that prior knowledge of Outbreak is unnecessary: "not at all." He added, "We make sure that players who didn't play Outbreak, and players who have played Outbreak, will both be able to enjoy as much as they can." The choice of Alyssa as Grace's mother stems from her role as a Raccoon City incident victim with a clear motive.

Release Information

Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC via Steam, and Switch 2. Capcom has noted that the game retains some elements from its earlier concept as an online multiplayer open-world title, though details remain unclear. Additionally, it avoids the PC performance issues seen in Monster Hunter Wilds, per Capcom's recent earnings report.
