Several high school teams from Section V claimed titles in the class B indoor track and field championships held in Rochester on Saturday. The Oakfield-Alabama/Elba boys secured their fifth straight victory in class B4, while Perry's girls won their first-ever title in the same division. Batavia swept both boys and girls titles in class B1, and individual athletes from Byron-Bergen and Letchworth triumphed in class B3.
The Section V Indoor Track and Field Championships took place on Saturday in Rochester, New York, with competitions across multiple class B divisions highlighting strong performances from local teams.
In class B4 at the event, the Oakfield-Alabama/Elba boys team extended their dominance by winning their fifth consecutive sectional title. They also set a record in the 4x200-meter relay. Landon Pangrazio of Oakfield-Alabama/Elba won the weight throw, contributing to the team's success. Meanwhile, the Perry girls team celebrated their first indoor sectional title in program history, in just their fourth year. Key wins included Marijke Allison in the 1500-meter racewalk, Avery Dueppengiesser in the 55-meter hurdles, Jonathan Kerr in the 300-meter, Colby Gonzalez-Carman in the 600-meter, and Mason Evans in the pole vault for the second straight year. The Perry 4x400-meter relay victory sealed their team title. Other results saw Keshequa's girls finish sixth and Warsaw's boys in eighth.
Shifting to class B1, hosted at Nazareth University, Batavia's teams achieved a sweep, with both the boys and girls claiming sectional titles. This marked the 20th indoor title for the girls and 13th for the boys, bringing their total across indoor and outdoor to 50. Mallory Boyce was named the most outstanding track athlete, and Drew Stevens the most outstanding field athlete for the girls team.
In class B3, three athletes from the GLOW region earned individual titles despite no team championships for their squads. Byron-Bergen's Katherine Rogoyski won the pole vault, and Colin Rea took the 55-meter hurdles. Letchworth's Naomi Yount claimed the shot put, with teammate Miranda Hoyt placing second in the pole vault.
These results underscore the competitive depth in Section V's indoor track season.
