The Ottawa Senators will be without defenceman Thomas Chabot and forward Ridly Greig for their game against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday. Captain Brady Tkachuk could return soon from a thumb injury, according to coach Travis Green. The team continues a seven-game road trip amid injury challenges.
Ottawa Senators coach Travis Green provided updates on the team's injury situation ahead of Monday's game against the Los Angeles Kings at 9 p.m. ET. Defenceman Thomas Chabot, 28, who returned for Saturday's 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks after missing three games with an upper-body injury, will sit out again. In 18 games this season, Chabot has two goals and eight assists.
Forward Ridly Greig, 23, will miss his third straight game due to an undisclosed injury. He has two goals and six assists in 19 games before getting sidelined. Rookie Stephen Halliday, who made his NHL debut on the road trip and has one assist in two games, will step in for Greig.
Captain Brady Tkachuk, who injured his thumb on Oct. 13 in the team's third game and underwent surgery four days later, is progressing well. Green said Tkachuk is doing 'great' and could return 'sooner than later.' Tkachuk had three assists in those first three games and was a full participant in practice on Nov. 19. The Senators have a 10-4-4 record without him, with an overall mark of 11-6-4 entering the week.
Tkachuk expressed optimism: 'I think they’re kind of doing whatever it takes to win. The compete and will to win level is the highest I’ve ever seen, so just looking to add to that when we get back and join what they’ve built the last five weeks. Just looking to add and elevate and help the boys as much as I can.'
General manager Steve Staios noted on Nov. 10: 'Brady's done all he can to continue to lead, even with his injury, being in and around the group. Credit to the group. We know how much of an impact that he is for us as a team, yet our players took it upon themselves to step up and continue to play well.'
The Senators' road trip continues with visits to the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday, St. Louis Blues on Friday, Dallas Stars on Sunday, and Montreal Canadiens next Tuesday.
