President Claudia Sheinbaum congratulated the Mexican national team after its 1-0 victory over South Korea on June 19 at Estadio Guadalajara.
Mexico topped Group A of the 2026 World Cup with the result and advanced to the round of 16. The goal was scored by Luis Romo in the 50th minute.
Sheinbaum watched the match from Palacio Nacional and posted a message on social media: “Muchas felicidades a nuestra Selección. Su triunfo llena de orgullo a todo México”.
During her morning press conference on June 19, the president praised goalkeeper Raúl “Tala” Rangel in particular and recalled the message she gave the team during the pre-tournament flag ceremony.
Mexico’s next match will be against the Czech Republic on June 24 at 19:00 at Estadio Ciudad de México.
