Son Heung-min benched at start of South Africa match

Head coach Hong Myung-bo left captain Son Heung-min out of the starting lineup for South Korea's final Group A match against South Africa on Wednesday.

Guadalupe, Mexico — Head coach Hong Myung-bo inserted Oh Hyeon-gyu into the forward spot for the final group stage match against South Africa at Estadio Monterrey. Son had started the previous two matches but was substituted in both without scoring.

South Korea can advance to the knockout stage with a win or draw. They may also advance as a third-place team if they lose, provided Czechia do not beat Mexico.

Kim Min-jae will wear the captain's armband. Kim Seung-gyu starts in goal.
