Soneja wildfire forces Azuébar evacuation and enters Espadán Park

A wildfire declared at midday Sunday between Soneja and Azuébar in Castellón has forced the evacuation of 500 to 700 people and has already affected 150 hectares.

The fire, which affects forest mass, has entered the natural park of the Sierra de Espadán and its evolution is negative, according to the Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos. The Generalitat has declared Situation 2 of the Special Forest Fire Plan and has mobilized more than 220 ground personnel along with up to 18 aerial means.

Fifty members of the Unidad Militar de Emergencias with 17 vehicles have joined the extinction efforts. The port of Sagunto has been closed to allow water loading for the aerial resources.

The president of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, has stated that the fire affects a small surface of the park and has called for great caution due to the weather conditions in the coming days. The government delegate, Pilar Bernabé, has highlighted the coordination between the government and the Generalitat.
