STF declares three-day mourning after death of former minister Octavio Gallotti

The Supremo Tribunal Federal decreed three days of official mourning following the death of former court president Octavio Gallotti at age 95. The measure was signed by Vice President Alexandre de Moraes.

Gallotti died on Sunday, July 26. He served on the STF from 1984 to 2000 and presided over the court from 1993 to 1995. The national flag must fly at half-mast and celebrations at the court are suspended during the period.

The wake will take place on Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the White Hall of the STF, open to the public. The burial is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, at Cemitério São João Batista in Rio de Janeiro.

STF President Edson Fachin highlighted Gallotti's contribution to the country. Attorney General Paulo Gonet expressed solidarity with the family and praised his example of integrity.
