Two typhoons passed along Japan's Pacific coast on Saturday, causing one death and three injuries. Heavy rain triggered landslides and transport disruptions.
Typhoon Higos and Typhoon Mekkhal, along with a seasonal rain front, brought heavy downpours to southwestern, western and eastern coastal areas. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the storms weakened to tropical depressions by the end of Saturday.
A man in his 70s died in Yamaguchi Prefecture after a landslide collapsed his home on Friday. Three other people were injured in the same incident, local authorities said.
The heavy rain also damaged roads and interrupted air and rail services across affected regions.
