U21: Bayern talent Lennart Karl leads German youth to win over Georgia

The German U21 national team defeated Georgia 2-0 in EM qualification. Bayern talent Lennart Karl scored the opener in first-half stoppage time. Nicolo Tresoldi sealed the victory.

Led by 17-year-old Bayern shooting star Lennart Karl, the German U21 team celebrated its next win in EM qualification. Before 2,929 spectators in Tiflis, the team beat the deep-lying hosts 2-0 (1-0). Karl initiated the goal and scored in the 45.+2 minute with his weaker left foot for 1-0. It was his third goal in just his second U21 international.

Nicolo Tresoldi from FC Brugge then made it 2-0 in the 58th minute. His long-range shot was slightly deflected. Coach Antonio Di Salvo's side was clearly superior but initially struggled in front of goal. Tresoldi hit the post early (25th minute), and after a corner from captain Tom Bischof (FC Bayern), Said El Mala, returning from the senior national team, narrowly missed with a header.

Karl and El Mala impressed together for the first time in the youth squad under Bischof's guidance. After halftime, Karl nearly scored a second (56th minute). With better finishing, a higher scoreline would have been possible.

In the table, Germany holds second place with 12 points behind Greece (15). Group winners and the best runner-up qualify directly for the 2027 EM in Albania and Serbia; other runners-up enter playoffs. Next match: Late March home game against Northern Ireland.

The hype around Karl is intense after his spectacular goals against Gladbach and Brugge. Teammates praise the 17-year-old, and media discuss a potential senior national team call-up.
