UAT questions Parliament's impeachment chair appointment

The United Africans Transformation party has raised concerns about the appointment of Makashule Gana as chairperson of the parliamentary impeachment committee investigating President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Dr Bantu Mahlatsi, president of the United Africans Transformation, voiced the party's reservations on 6 June 2026. The group does not doubt Gana's competence but questions his neutrality because his party forms part of the Government of National Unity. Gana was elected to lead the committee set up to examine allegations against President Cyril Ramaphosa linked to the Phala Phala farm scandal. The United Africans Transformation says the composition of the committee itself raises issues about process integrity. The concerns were highlighted in a statement and accompanying video released the same day.
