Victor Osimhen is expected to take over as Galatasaray captain following Mauro Icardi's departure. The Nigerian striker served as vice-captain last season. The club has not yet confirmed the appointment officially.
Galatasaray confirmed this week that Mauro Icardi has left the club after his contract expired. The Argentine spent four years in Istanbul and won four Turkish Super Lig titles.
Victor Osimhen joined Galatasaray from Napoli in 2025. He helped the team secure back-to-back league titles and the Turkish Cup while reaching 50 goals faster than any player in club history.
Reports from Turkey indicate Osimhen is the leading candidate to assume the captaincy. He served as assistant captain under manager Okan Buruk last season and scored key goals including in the derby against Fenerbahce.
If appointed Osimhen would become one of the few Nigerian players to lead a major European club.
