Washington and Lee track teams shine on day one of ODAC indoor championships

In the 5,000 meters, Adelaide Ellis took second in a personal-best 18:14.25, earning Second Team All-ODAC honors. Eve Spencer, Sarah Clark, and Brianna Breyault placed fourth, fifth, and eighth, all with personal bests. The distance medley relay team of Charlotte Gardner, Kaia Beddows, Kate Odell, and Audrey Robinson finished third in 13:03.89 for Third Team All-ODAC honors.

Qualifiers for finals included Lucy Buchmayr (9.40 seconds), Joanne Lee (9.41 seconds), and Elizabeth Sawicki (9.61 seconds) in the 60-meter hurdles, and Lilly Versen (7.95 seconds, season best) in the 60-meter dash.

On the men's side, the Generals hold third place with 30 points, behind Lynchburg's 69 and Bridgewater's 41. Eastern Mennonite and Virginia Wesleyan each have 13 points. David Akinnubi broke a 33-year-old program high jump record, clearing 2.00 meters (6 feet, 6.75 inches) for fourth place. William Dunaway ran second in the 5,000 meters in a personal-best 14:42.09, the fourth-fastest in program history, earning Second Team All-ODAC honors. Keaton Rush placed third in 14:45.02 for Third Team honors, with Sam Daunt fourth in 14:55.54 and Jackson Kodenski eighth in 15:25.39 (season best). The distance medley relay of Will DeLoach, Javan Hirwa, Davis Amare, and Jaden Brighter finished fourth in 10:42.28.

Macky Gartley posted the top preliminary time in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.12 seconds, and Mark Freeman ran 7.07 seconds in the 60-meter dash, sixth-fastest overall and fourth in program history.

The championships continue on the second day, starting at noon for field events and 2:30 p.m. for track events in the men's division, and 11 a.m. for pole vault and 2:45 p.m. for the mile in the women's.
