There are no indications of foul play. In a statement on the channel's Instagram profile, his family shared: „Jan ist sehr plötzlich und unerwartet am 18. November an einem epileptischen Anfall verstorben.“ They thanked supporters for their sympathy and requested privacy.
Zimmermann was one of Germany's most prominent YouTubers. His channel „Gewitter im Kopf“ has nearly two million subscribers. Together with his friend Tim Lehmann, he documented his life with Tourette syndrome, a neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by involuntary tics—such as movements, sounds, words, or profanities that are only partially controllable. Zimmermann affectionately called the syndrome „Gisela“. Many videos were both humorous and educational. „Unser Ziel ist es, offen, humorvoll, aber auch sachlich darüber zu sprechen, um es somit für alle greifbarer und verständlicher zu machen“, the two friends described their mission.
