1961 Galaxie Starliner restomod set for Mecum auction

A modified 1961 Galaxie Starliner, featuring a supercharged engine from a Shelby GT500, is scheduled for auction. The restomod combines classic styling with modern performance upgrades. It will be offered at Mecum Auctions in Glendale, Arizona.

The 1961 Galaxie Starliner, known for its bubble-top styling and subtle tailfins, has been transformed into a restomod that blends vintage aesthetics with contemporary power. Under the hood, it houses a supercharged 5.4-liter DOHC Modular V8 engine sourced from a 2011-2012 Shelby GT500. This setup delivers factory-rated output of 550 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, enhanced further by a 2.3-liter twin-screw supercharger for additional performance in the full-size chassis.

Power is transmitted through a 4R70 automatic transmission, maintaining the engine's optimal range. To manage the increased capabilities, the vehicle includes modern suspension upgrades and Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes. Its lowered stance, paired with performance wheels and high-grip tires, ensures stable handling and effective power application.

Inside, the Starliner retains its classic vibe while incorporating updated seating, an audio system, and other modern comforts. This combination allows for effortless highway performance, responsive torque delivery, and a distinctive supercharged soundtrack.

The restomod respects its early 1960s origins while meeting expectations for current enthusiasts. It is slated to appear as Lot V564 at Mecum Auctions in Glendale, Arizona, on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
