Journalist Alex Escobar, 51, announced on Thursday (25) that he is leaving Globo's 2026 World Cup coverage after feeling unwell live on air earlier in the week.
In a social media post, Escobar explained that he underwent medical exams in the United States. The results showed no serious problems, yet he chose to interrupt the work because he did not feel safe to continue.
The discomfort occurred on Monday morning (22) during a live segment on the Encontro program. Escobar was speaking with Patrícia Poeta about the Brazilian national team and paused in his speech, with variations in his voice. He suffered a blood pressure spike and received assistance afterward.
Despite the decision, Escobar said he is well. “Of course there is frustration, I was having a lot of fun, but I am fine. Thank you for the affection! I will keep updating the situation here. Go, Vini!!! Braaaziiilll!!!”, he wrote. Colleagues such as Fátima Bernardes and Glenda Kozlowski expressed support on social media.
