A bear was filmed in Kolarmora outside Gimo last Saturday. The area is a known bear habitat according to county officials.
The footage shows a bear of unknown sex walking in the area. Anders Johannesson, a wildlife handler at the County Administrative Board, confirmed the sighting.
Bears have been observed in Kolarmora for several years and the board receives regular reports from the location. It is not unusual for the animals to move through there.
There is no current overall picture of the bear population in Uppsala County. The last scat inventory was conducted nearly five years ago and produced insufficient data. The next inventory is scheduled for 2027.
The public is encouraged to report observations but advised against seeking out the bear to photograph it as this can lead to risky situations.
